Say 'goodbye' to those tiny invaders - it's time to ant-terminate!

How to Minimize Ants Between Treatments

01

Seal Entry Points

Even if pest control has treated the interior of your home, pests can still gain access through cracks, gaps, or openings in walls, windows, doors, and other entry points. Sealing these areas minimizes the chances of new pests getting inside.

02

Maintain Cleanliness

Pests, including ants, rodents, and insects, are often attracted to food sources, water, and clutter. Maintaining cleanliness makes your home less appealing to pests and helps prevent them from nesting or foraging inside

03

Maintain Landscape Hygiene

The area surrounding your home can harbor pests that eventually make their way indoors. Keeping the exterior of your home and yard clean reduces the likelihood of pests nesting or finding food sources nearby.

04

Use Natural Deterrents or Traps

In between treatments, you can use natural pest deterrents and traps to keep pest populations in check. These can help reduce pest activity and prevent larger infestations before the next treatment. Call Kolob Pest Control to help set out traps.

What Ants are in Southern Utah?

Pogonomyrmex

(Seed-eating Ants)

These are large, reddish ants known for collecting seeds. They often create large, conspicuous nests in open, dry areas. Their sting is painful, and they are known for their aggressive defense of their nests.

Brachymyrmex

(Pavement ants)

Pavement ants are small, dark-colored ants that often nest under rocks or pavement. They are common in urban or disturbed habitats, including lawns, gardens, and roadsides.

(Wood Ants)

They are found in wooded areas or near forest edges, particularly at higher elevations. These ants can form large colonies and are known for their aggressive behavior when defending their nests.

Formica

(Funnel ants)

These ants are common in dry, rocky environments like those in Southern Utah. They create funnel-shaped nests and are often seen foraging in the morning or evening.

Aphaenogaster

Solenopsis

(Fire Ants)

Although not native to the region, fire ants have been expanding their range, and they can be found in some areas of southern Utah, especially in warmer, lowland regions. They are notorious for their painful stings.

These small ants are known for their parasitic behavior. They invade the nests of other ant species and steal their brood (larvae and pupae).

Temnothorax

(Honey Pot Ants)

These ants are found in arid regions and are known for their unique trait where certain worker ants become "living food storage" by gorging on nectar and becoming bloated and immobile. This adaptation allows the colony to survive in harsh environments.

Myrmecocystus

(Carpenter Ants)

Carpenter ants are common in forests and woodlands, and although they do not typically invade homes, they are present in areas with abundant wood. These ants can be found in Southern Utah's wooded areas.

Camponotus

(Desert ants)

These are smaller desert ants that are adapted to hot, dry climates. They often form large colonies and can be found in sandy soils and desert scrublands.

Creightonella

(Seed Harvesting Ants)

These ants are primarily seed harvesters and are often found in the arid environments of Southern Utah. They create large, visible mounds and are active during the warmer months.
